March Newsletter
3 Cheers for St Kilda, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!
March 2011
Congratulations St Kilda on a very successful season. Everyone is to be commended on their teamwork and commitment to 2010/2011 season. We saw 5 teams filled and on the green every week, 3 teams in finals (2 Sectional Grand Final winners, 2 Divisional Quarter Final winners and in the top 3 out of 80 teams in the Divisional Semi Finals), 2 promotions, and no relegations. Whether you played one game or all, every member is a part of the success. And all this was achieved in a very trying season where we played at 3 host grounds, had 4 abandonments, 3 washouts and heat on most of the days we did get to play.
Big thanks to the Selectors (David Loosmore, Nicole O’Connor and Roderic Morgan) for co-ordinating the teams each week and getting us to such a fantastic position. Big thanks also to the Team Managers (Robbie Briglia, David Loosmore, Barry Wilson, Pam Loosmore and Barb Skidmore) who did all the administrative work on game day.
Congratulations also go to all those who went out on Tuesday nights to play in the Southern District Electric Light Bowling Association Pennant season. We didn’t have as many wins, but we had fun and we didn’t come last, and the experience gained never goes astray. Barry Wilson and Garry Bell, “great job” coordinating this competition.
With all this success, let’s keep bowling in the winter season and be ready to have an even more successful season in 2011 / 2012.
What’s coming up?
Club Championship Grand Finals – Monday 14th March, Labour Day – 2 of the Club Championship Grand Finals will be played at Middle Park Bowling Club.
12 noon Mixed Pairs David Loosmore/Pam Loosmore VS Robbie Briglia/Tara Ferrier

This will be a great day out and I look forward to seeing as many people there supporting as can make it.
The Triples Grand Final will be announced after the 20th March. It may possibly be played alongside the Novice Tournament to be held on Sunday 3rd April.
Novice Tournament – 1st & 2nd year bowlers – 3rd April 2011
At the wrap up, after the last game of pennant, Titch offered to establish a Novice Tournament. Ably assisted by Nicole, they have been busy preparing it for first and second year bowlers. Send your interest to nicolep.oconnor@gmail.com or titch5@yahoo.com by Friday 25th March so they can co-ordinate the draw by Monday 28th March.
Games to be played at Elsternwick Park on Sunday 3rd April from 10.00am at a cost $2.00 per player.
Winter Competition – closing date for team entries 21st March 2011
Expressions of interest are still required for those wishing to co-ordinate the Winter Competition. It is a fairly straight forward role which will give you a taste or insight into selection.
Also let us know if you want to be a bowler in the comp. You may like to commit to every week or every second week. We need to know so we can enter the right number of teams for St Kilda. We have had teams in the competition for the last two years and made the grand final last year. It has proven to be beneficial in keeping the bowling arm lubricated through the cooler months. Please email secretary@stkildabowlingclub.com.au of your interest soon, as team entries close on Monday 21st March.
The competition will be conducted as a 2-rink, 2-bowl triples, of two games of 12 ends with teams swapping over and playing the other rink, after a short break at the completion of the first game.
Dates of play – May 7, 14, 21, 28, June 5, 12 & 19. Semi Finals June 26. Final July 3rd. All finals to be played at Albert Park, Rounds of play that are washed out are replayed at the end of the home and away fixtures.
Green fees $5, payable to host clubs. Players must play in three matches in that grade to qualify to play in finals.
Uniforms – it is recommended that club shirts or jackets be worn.
Presentation Night – now …… Saturday 9 April
Presentation Night/Day has been shuffled as much as the Pennant season was! The last advice sent out was to diarise Sunday 10 April but due to a cancellation in the top room, we are now changing the date for the very last time!
The new date is Saturday 9 April. As this last change is very recent, I would anticipate that you will see the flyer within the week.

Congratulations to Sarah (Guthry) Tilmanis and Warren for our new bowler, Hayden Aleksander Tilmanis born 2nd March at 5.26pm and weighing 3.52kg.

Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting is coming up in May and now is the time to think about helping the Club and contributing to its success. As always, all Committee and Selector positions are open, and a call for nominations for positions on the committee will go out soon by email, and also on the notice board at the Club. The Club is run by the members for the members. Remember, you don’t have to be in an elected position to help out – if you are in a position to offer assistance to the Committee, there will be a range of Sub-Committees where member support is required. Please ensure that the incoming Committee are aware of your interest and availability to provide support.
Name Badges
This is a last call before I do the new order for name badges ($13). Those who have already responded, there is no need to respond again, but those who have missed the boat on the last two advices, please email me at president@stkildabowlingclub.com.au
